About the product

Sawn timber is solid wood cut from logs into specified sections and lengths. It is used for building components, joinery, furniture parts and packaging. The Kariwood timber brochure covers pine, spruce and larch. Species, moisture content, surface finish, acceptable defects and finished dimensions should be specified together.

Pine, spruce or larch?

Pine timber, spruce timber and larch timber should be selected for more than appearance. Joinery requires attention to machining and finish; furniture to visible defects and part layout; packaging to sections and service conditions. Structural timber also requires the strength grade and grading documentation specified by the project.

Kiln-dried, rough-sawn and planed timber

Kiln-dried describes drying condition; planed describes surface processing. These properties are not interchangeable. Rough-sawn timber needs an allowance for the finished section, while a net-size order should state the finished thickness, width and length. The brochure’s moisture ranges are separate options: specify the target moisture with the intended service environment.

Timber dimensions and cubic metres

A section is normally specified as thickness × width, with length given separately. Volume in cubic metres is thickness × width × length in metres, multiplied by piece count. For example, 100 pieces measuring 50 × 100 mm and 3 m long have a nominal volume of 1.5 m³. This is a calculation example, not an available size or tolerance statement.

What determines a timber quotation?

Timber prices depend on species, quality requirements, moisture, section, length, finish and quantity. Provide cubic metres or piece count, the delivery location and any cutting list. If the quantity is not final, describe the application and approximate need. Kariwood uses these details to discuss available dimensions and delivery conditions.
